entrepreneurship and the qualities of making a great leader are becoming increasingly important in the world of work. the skills of creativity, collaboration, critical-thinking and communication are key areas of entrepreneurial development. all students from year 5 through to year 12 are offered age appropriate options to join the entrepreneurship clubs in our co-curricular program. through these clubs, students will connect with each other while participating in challenging and engaging pursuits and are provided important opportunities to shape their creative and critical thinking skills whilst positioning themselves for better employment prospects for the future.
during the year, students learn how to design their own business plans, apply for small start-up loans through the school budget, repay all borrowed money from their entrepreneurial profits or discuss why losses may have occurred, purchase and maintain their own stock, apply mark-up on stock, adjust pricing of products to suit current demand, advertise products, liquidate stock at the end of a business cycle and successfully shut down their own activities ready for the next year. a range of enterprising guidelines and competitions are offered during lunch times including a successful industrial-sized pop-corn machine business already co-owned and maintained by our middle school students.

over the last few years, the knox school has had considerable success in recognition of its entrepreneurial activities. the following successful outcomes have been launched from our entrepreneurial program:
- 3 x year 8 students represent victoria in the australian video game challenge coding competition with their work exhibited at science works, victoria (2019)
- 2 x year 7 students represent victoria in the first pitch competition after designing a covid-19 musical hand washing device for small children (2020)
- 4 x year 11 students participating in the national finals for the conrad challenge in brisbane after developing a computer app for the gamification of healthy eating (2019) and make it to the semi-finals (round 2) of the world finals in the usa.
- 4 x year 10 wise (women in stem enterprise) monash university, finalist (2019)
- 3 x year 12 students represent australia at nasa for the world conrad challenge (2018), and win their category at the world finals the following year, giving them the title of conrad scholars in 2019, after prototyping fingerprint technology for eftpos machines.
- 1 x year 11 student wins the australian prize for the stock market game (2019)
- 2 x year 10 students win state level prizes for the stock market game (2019)
- 4 x year 10 students contribute their thoughts towards redesigning the australian curriculum in entrepreneurship with foundation for young australians (2018)
from 2021, a new entrepreneurs alumni group will launch. this will consist of seven highly skilled and successful past students who will be mentoring our younger students through many of the programs offered throughout the year.
